About the desk

Sport News Australia is a small independent desk covering Australian sport for readers in Australia and Australians abroad. We write about the AFL and AFLW, the NRL and NRLW, State of Origin, cricket, the A-Leagues and the national football teams, tennis, netball and the big events in between.

What we publish

Two kinds of story. News pieces tell you what happened and what comes next, with the dates and venues you need. Guides explain how a competition works or what a ground is like, and we update them when the rules change. We do not run live blogs, live scores or match streams.

How we check facts

Results, fixtures and dates are taken from the governing bodies' own publications and cross-checked against a second source. Anything not yet confirmed is written as unconfirmed. Stories carry the date they were published and the date of their last update.

Independence

We are not affiliated with the AFL, NRL, Cricket Australia, Football Australia, Tennis Australia, Netball Australia, any club or any broadcaster. League, club and competition names are used only to report on them. The site carries no betting content, no odds and no gambling advertising.

Corrections and contact

If something is wrong, email [email protected]. We correct errors promptly and note the change at the foot of the story.

This domain before us

In 2025 this address held a short-lived WordPress site with a single general essay about sport. That site closed; nothing from it is republished here and the old addresses now lead to this front page.
